"I am still learning."

Welcome to Mrs. Sefton's
Art Classes
Mrs. Sefton's Bio
I was born in Bangor, Maine. Being an Air Force brat, I moved a lot. Most of my growing up years were spent in Germany where my dad was stationed. I went to a different school every single year in high school living at Wurtsmith, Wiesbaden, Ramstein and Rhein-Main Air Force Bases. Kaiserslautern American High School in Kaiserslautern, Germany is my alma mater, class of 1977. In school I was good in art (who would have guessed???) and English, and lousy at math and science. I took my first real painting classes with an old German man named Herr Ludwig who was a Nazi submariner in World War II. He was a very sweet old man and had a hard time dealing with his past. He was a haunted, but wonderful painting teacher. I headed off to Michigan State University with a major in Pre-Veterinary Medicine but quickly changed it to Art. I graduated from MSU in 1981 and followed my husband out here to Maryland. I worked as a photo lab technician, a graphic designer, and an art director of three magazines before I had my two daughters: Rebecca, now a sophomore at University of Maryland, and Leah, who is currently a senior at Ellizabeth Seton High School. I also have a dog of unknown heritage named Spice. I was a stay-at-home mom/professional artist for 16 years spending time volunteering in my kids' schools, painting, entering art competitions (even winning some!) and showing my work in art galleries. For a couple of years I owned and managed Cobblestone Art Gallery, on King Street in Alexandria, VA, with a good friend. My love of people and animals is reflected in my portrait work. I also love to paint landscapes en plein aire (outdoors), as well as whatever else catches my eye. I'm also an enthusiastic photographer, often taking pictures to use as reference for my paintings. Traveling, gardening, reading and collecting things are some of my hobbies. My husband says we'll be moving into the shed in the backyard soon if I don't stop bringing home "cool stuff". This is my second year of teaching at Pallotti High School. My classes are Fundamentals of Art, Sculpture, Painting, and Photography as well as being the moderator of the Art Club. Like Michelangelo, I'm a perennial student currently taking Ms. Bock's Spanish IV Honors class and working on my Master of Arts in Teaching degree at College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD.
Trip to England, Ireland and Wales Planned for June 2008 -- Don't Miss Out!
Six Pallotti High School students and several of their parents joined Mrs. Vawter (Pallotti's campus minister) and I on a trip to Italy over Easter break last year. It was absolutely AWESOME!!! We had such a great time, we're sponsoring another trip this coming June to England, Ireland and Wales. There's still time to get in on the fun! Contact either Mrs. Vawter or myself or go directly to eftours.com and check out our trip. It's #114512 when you get to the site. We'll be seeing the sights of London for two days, visiting Oxford and Stratford, then moving on through Wales. From Wales we'll take a ferry to the fair city of Dublin, Ireland where we'll stay for two more days. The rest of the trip will be spent touring the beautiful sights of the Emerald Isle. I can't wait!!!!!!! I hope you'll consider going with us!
