-Opposite of brain with gray matter on the inside, and white matter on the outside
-Sensory info enters through dorsal root, motor info is sent out through ventral root
-31 spinal nerves:
8-cervical
12-thoracic
5-lumber
6-sacral
-thicker in the cervical and lumbar regions where the nerves for the arms and legs branch off
